Recently I’ve had some situations which required waiting – for an answer about a work issue, results of some health tests, lining up in a queue, waiting for a short break away. And I found myself being somewhat impatient. does this happen to you? I am usually fairly patient but there are times when I’m not. We can wait in fear or in peaceful expectation and these situations are a great opportunity to give substance to the waiting – in anticipation. So instead of being stressed we can experience a positive energy during this waiting. This also applies to our spiritual journey as well – waiting on God.

I found this quote from Mother Mary Francis in ‘The Art of Waiting‘ helpful.

We can be content to wait to be understood when God strikes the moment (Kronos) rather than trying to turn the clock, the calendar, ahead to our preferred moment of ‘now’ (Chronos). We can stand patiently or irritably in line at the airport. We can wait with the deliciousness of a child’s waiting for Christmas. We can wait in peace for God to strike his own moment, reveal his own plans, unveil the demands of his love. And we can see all life and its often-bewildering hours and events as a waiting to see the face of God, which vision is less the explanation of life on earth than a revelation of the mystery of his love. It is ours to determine how to wait.

What is your experience of waiting in anticipation?
